you could probably say that one of my favorite parts about traveling comes even before i'm actually en route. my favorite part is the anticipation that builds as i scour all resources to come up with an itinerary. not to say i always stick to it, because the great thing about traveling is the room to be spontaneous and go off course to discover something yet untold, however it's always good to be prepared, just in case you get stuck in a rut or if only to familiarize yourself with the destination. i could get paid to do this kinda stuff. i lurv it.
of course, the first list i compile is a list of good eats. this list was drawn up after meticulously combing through blogs and boards, even before we had made hotel reservations. a friend commented that "at least you'll be full, even if it means you'll be sleeping in your car" so true. we have our priorities straight. oh, and jo's coworkers thought i was a little crazy when they saw my list. iiii think the list is beautiful. hehe
our first meal in maine was at barnacle billy's in perkins cove. no doubt about it, we were going to try their lobster roll.
the only other time i had a lobster roll was... i can't recall; that's how long it's been. and i'm not the hugest fan of lobster, but people have convinced me that it's because i just haven't had really good lobster. i mean, i enjoy it in stuff, but never really thought it's rubbery texture dipped in butter when it's steamed was all the rage. but this lobster roll? this was lobster schooling me. chunks, and i mean big juicy yet firm chunks, of meat that hadn't been tampered with much. minimal mayo and celery and just enough seasoning to bring out the natural flavors. the bun's important too, and in this case, it was sort of like a thick slice of a loaf, toasted and molded into a convenient little boat.
look at the chunks of lobster! you kind of have to savor it though, cuz lobster rolls are pretty darn small. lucky me, i'm a slow eater.
the scenery is gorgeous. loads of boats suiting up for a sunset sail.
the cluster of shops where i found....
chocolate covered gummy bears! i've heard loads about it but never was able to locate any. ooo they were so yummy.. and i don't even like gummy bears much! except the orange ones. be my gummy bear partner! meaning eat all the colors i don't like hehe
barnacle billy's:

after looking at that pic of the lobster roll...i'm gonna need a minute. *drool*
